Project Overview

The Edison is the first of its kind in the DC area. It is the first mixed-use residential space for Union Market. It is also touted as the first Smart Components® wood-framed building on the East Coast. The building houses five stories (187 units) of apartments situated on top of a podium over a level of retail and amenity space with three additional levels (228 spaces) of underground parking. The five stories of wood-framed units were constructed using a proprietary system called Smart Components® with Type IIIA, 2-hour rated exterior walls. The podium, below-grade transfer slabs and all attached walls were all constructed using cast-in-place concrete. Foundation include a slab on grade and conventional concrete spread footings.
